New York Times columnist Farhad Manjoo is not a fan of Fox News. But in his latest column, he confides that he's watching the network obsessively these days—and he recommends that others do the same, especially liberals. Why? How's this for a reason: "It is no exaggeration to say that what happens on Fox now—the way it decides to play impeachment and the twists and turns of the 2020 race—could well determine the fate of the republic," writes Manjoo. His theory revolves around the growing rift at the network, where the news side asks tough questions about Trump and impeachment, while the opinion side (think Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, etc.) "pushes his raving conspiracies."
This "drama speaks to real tension on the right, and Fox will inform political reality," writes Manjoo. Be warned, he writes: Watching Fox's prime-time line-up has at times left Manjoo "terrified" about the plight of the nation, given the stark terms being laid out by hosts and guests. "But this, too, is important news about America," he writes. "The president, quoting a Fox News guest, says that his impeachment could bring about civil war in America.
