Celebrity / Emmy Awards Emmys Took a Dig at Felicity Huffman Commentator jokes about previous winners watching from prison By Newser Editors, Newser Staff Posted Sep 23, 2019 7:53 AM CDT Copied Felicity Huffman leaves federal court with her brother Moore Huffman Jr. following, after she was sentenced in a nationwide college admissions bribery scandal, Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, in Boston. (AP Photo/Michael Dwyer) One of the jokes during the Emmy broadcast Sunday night drew more attention than the rest. The show didn't have a host, but it did have a commentator in comedian Thomas Lennon, and he delivered a clear jab at Felicity Huffman. “The producers have asked me to give a special shout-out to our previous lead actress winners who are watching from prison," he said. "Hopefully those two weeks are going to fly right by. Keep your chin up." (Watch it here.) Huffman, who is indeed a previous Emmy winner, just received a 14-day sentence for her role in the college admissions scandal. "Ouch. That Felicity Huffman joke was harsh," tweeted journalist Elizabeth Wagmeister, who was at the awards show, per BuzzFeed. "The room didn't love that one." Deadline sees it as a "mildly funny dig maybe, though more of a cheap shot," and points out that Huffman doesn't actually report to prison until next month. ET rounds up more of the "shadiest" moments from the broadcast, including the audience tittering when Kim Kardashian spoke about her family's "compelling television."
