Britney Spears' father has served as her conservator for more than a decade, but that just changed, at least for the short term. Billboard reports a Los Angeles judge has approved, at dad Jamie Spears' own request, that he temporarily step down as the official watcher over his 37-year-old daughter's affairs, including her medical care, security, and the people she associates with. The paperwork filed Sept. 5 cited "personal health reasons" as the reason for Jamie Spears' request, with his fill-in replacement to serve through Jan. 20. Billboard notes the move may have come after Kevin Federline, Britney Spears' ex-husband and father of her two sons, recently filed his own documents. The Federline filing was for a restraining order against Jamie Spears, alleging abuse against 13-year-old Sean Preston Federline, the DJ's older son with his ex-wife, per Us Weekly.
"Jamie and Sean Preston got into an argument," a source told Us. "Sean Preston felt unsafe and locked himself into a room. Jamie broke into the room and shook Sean Preston." The order reportedly bars Jamie Spears from any contact with Sean or his 12-year-old brother, Jayden James, for three years, and mandates that an adult who isn't Jamie must be present with the boys whenever they're with their mom. The singer's new temporary conservator: Jodi Montgomery, picked by Jamie Spears himself, and who seems to be an approved choice by all involved parties, per TMZ. Jamie Spears could ostensibly return in January to the conservatorship role he's had since 2008, if no one mounts a challenge. A further status hearing on the conservatorship will be held Sept. 18.
