WalletHub looked at more than 30 metrics for all 50 states, concentrating on three main categories: emotional and physical well-being (including career and social satisfaction, depression rates, and life expectancy); work environment, meaning such factors as commute times and how long people work each day; and community and environment, which examined safety, weather, and divorce rates, among other things.
