The star of New Girl has a new marital status: E! News reports that actress and singer Zooey Deschanel has split from her husband of four years, producer Jacob Pechenik. "After much discussion and a long period of contemplation, we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners, and co-parents rather than life partners," the couple say in a joint statement. "We remain committed to our business, our values, and most of all our children." A source tells Hollywood Life that Deschanel, 39, and Pechenik, 47, have been separated for "several months."
People notes the pair met on the set of the film Rock the Kasbah, starring Bill Murray. They married in the summer of 2015, and shortly thereafter they welcomed daughter Elsie, now 4. They also have a son, 2-year-old Charlie. USA Today notes the couple founded two food-oriented companies together, the Farm Project and Lettuce Grow. "They're both doing the best they can with co-parenting and are very involved, committed parents and doing the best they can to make the transition smooth," Hollywood Life's source says. Deschanel was previously married to Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard. (More Zooey Deschanel stories.)
