Police in Connecticut have released chilling new details of what they believe happened to Jennifer Dulos, a mother of five who has been missing since May. In an arrest warrant released Wednesday, investigators say evidence suggests estranged husband Fotis Dulos ambushed her at her home before driving away in her vehicle with her body and materials used to clean up her murder inside, reports the Hartford Courant. Dulos "was believed to have been lying in wait" for her to return from dropping their children off at school, the warrant states. "The crime and clean-up are believed to have occurred between 8:05am and 10:25am," when Jennifer Dulos' vehicle was driven away from the home. In the warrant, police say that on May 24, the day of the disappearance, Dulos had borrowed a red Toyota pickup from Pawel Gumienny, an employee of his home-building firm.
Surveillance footage captured the pickup parked just 100 feet from where Jennifer Dulos' vehicle was abandoned. According to the warrant, Gumienny told investigators that when Dulos returned the vehicle, he told him to replace the seats and sell it, reports the New York Times. But when he switched the seats, Gumienny kept the old ones in case investigators needed them—and when they were tested, police found traces of Jennifer Dulos' blood. Dulos was arrested Wednesday for a second time and charged with tampering with evidence. He was first arrested in June, along with girlfriend Michelle Troconis. He has not been charged with murder, and his wife's body has not been found. In a statement, Dulos' lawyer, Norm Pattis, criticized investigators and suggested they should look at Gumienny instead. "A handyman is telling tales to deflect attention from himself," he said. (Dulos has suggested that his wife copied Gone Girl.)
