Comedian Whitney Cummings is winning plaudits for how she dealt with trolls' attempts to extort her over a racy image. Instead of caving to them, she reposted the image herself. "They all must think I'm way more famous than I am, but they also must think I'm way more easily intimidated than I am," she wrote in an NSFW tweet. "If anyone is gonna make money or likes off my nipple, it's gonna be me. So here it all is, you foolish dorks." The background: Cummings explained that in April, she posted a photo of herself that inadvertently exposed more of her breast than she intended. She quickly deleted it, but some people took screenshots and began threatening to post it or sell it unless Cummings gave them money.
Cummings instead reposted herself, with a serious message. "When a woman in the public eye is extorted, we have to spend time, money and energy dealing with it, hiring lawyers and security experts, and living with a pit in our stomach about when and how we will be humiliated," she wrote. "Y'all can have my nipple, but not my time or money anymore." Cummings got lots of support for her handling of the incident, including supporters posting embarrassing photos of themselves in solidarity, notes NBC News. (More comedian stories.)
