A Canadian dairy farm is in mourning after an estimated 800 cows perished in a Monday blaze. Flames were reported before 5am local time at one of Manitoba's largest dairy farms, Pennwood Dairy in Steinbach. Workers inside the facility when the flames erupted were evacuated safely, per CTV News. However, just 200 of the farm's 1,000 cows could be saved, reports the CBC, which notes four connected buildings were destroyed before firefighters from five departments extinguished the blaze shortly before noon. "I heard cows just screaming," a neighbor tells the outlet. A fire official describes a "severe impact," noting "the dairy barn represents approximately 2.5% of the Manitoba milk production."
