Three giant pandas are missing from the famed Wolong panda reserve that was hit by the magnitude 7.9 earthquake last week in China, AFP reports. Emergency supplies of bamboo—the panda's staple—and apples are being flown into the area to help save the endangered animals. More than 80 are safe—including two offered by Beijing to Taiwan as goodwill gifts.
Five reserve workers were killed when the earthquake struck. A US tourist in a group stranded at Wolong after the quake spotted one of the animals. "I was spinning around, trying to gain my footing, and as I looked up, I saw a panda trying to do the same thing," he said. (More China stories.)
