The weekend controversy involving President Trump, Baltimore, and Rep. Elijah Cummings is already continuing into the new week. In a series of Monday morning tweets, Trump continued the theme. "Baltimore, under the leadership of Elijah Cummings, has the worst Crime Statistics in the Nation. 25 years of all talk, no action! So tired of listening to the same old Bull...," Trump wrote. Then, responding to a post from Al Sharpton that Sharpton was headed to Baltimore, Trump added him to his criticism. "Al is a con man, a troublemaker, always looking for a score," tweeted Trump. "Just doing his thing. Must have intimidated Comcast/NBC. Hates Whites & Cops!"
The controversy began when Trump, lashing out at Cummings, said the Baltimore district he represented was an awful, rat-infested place to live. Defenders of the city stepped up to criticize Trump as racist, and the president then accused Cummings of being the racist. Sharpton's visit to Baltimore Monday suggests the issue will be in the news Monday, and Trump appears to issuing a pre-emptive strike. "If the Democrats are going to defend the Radical Left 'Squad' and King Elijah’s Baltimore Fail, it will be a long road to 2020," he wrote. "The good news for the Dems is that they have the Fake News Media in their pocket! (More President Trump stories.)
