With peak barbecue season under way, one of the nation's largest producers of packaged bakery goods has announced a recall of hamburger and hot dog buns, as well as other products, because they may contain pieces of hard plastic that are a choking hazard. The Flowers Foods products carry a variety of brand names. They are sold at outlets including Walmart, Aldi, Publix, and Piggly Wiggly, CBS reports, in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The company, which is based in Thomasville, Ga., said it found pieces of hard plastic in production equipment, leading to the recall. Flowers urged consumers to throw the recalled products away or return them to the store. The company has posted a list of affected products, including UPC codes and lot numbers, here.
