The postponed raids to arrest thousands of migrant families in at least 10 cities across the country now are scheduled to begin Sunday. The ICE raids are to take place over more than one day and are aimed at families already ordered to leave. But they also could involve the deportations of immigrants agents happen across, the New York Times reports. The cities where raids were planned before include Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York and San Francisco, per CNN.
Immigrants rights advocates and Democrats warned undocumented migrants and advised them of their rights. The Council on American-Islamic Relations again issued an advisory, saying that migrants have the right to have a lawyer represent them, and do not have to let agents into their home unless they show a warrant, per Newsweek. A lawyer for the Immigrant Defense Project said, "A lot of times, ICE will pretend to be police and come up with fake investigations or say they're looking for a fake crime suspect and they're just trying to get into the home." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also told migrants Thursday not to open the door during the raids unless there's a search warrant. "Every person in America has rights," she said.
