When Fox & Friends came back from a commercial break on Sunday morning, chief national correspondent Ed Henry delivered some unexpected news: "So, I'm going to donate part of my liver on Tuesday," he told his co-hosts, per Mediaite. See the clip here. Henry struggled with his emotions as he filled in the details: The organ donation is for his younger sister, Colleen, who is suffering from an unspecified, hereditary disease. He broke down anew when a photo of him and his sister appeared on screen. "That's all I want to do ... give her a little life," he says.
As the Daily Caller notes, if the transplant is successful, both he and his sister will eventually have fully functioning livers because the organ can regenerate. “In my case, I desperately wanted to donate without reservation, but the doctors instructed me I first had to lose 10 to 15 pounds to cleanse fat from my liver and get the medical clearance needed for surgery,” Henry says. He shed the weight, then got the clearance. A GoFundMe page for Colleen notes that she is a single mother of two. (More Ed Henry stories.)
