Democratic voters unenthused with any of the other 23 candidates running for president may be glad to hear Joe Sestak has entered the race. The former congressman and retired three-star Navy admiral from Pennsylvania became his party's 24th candidate for 2020 with an announcement on his website Saturday, reports the New York Times. The 67-year-old said he had delayed the announcement because he wanted to spend more time with his daughter during her recent fight with brain cancer. "Throughout this past year, Alex again showed she is stronger than me, heroically beating the single digit odds once more," he said. Sestak served in the House from 2007 to 2011 and unsuccessfully ran for the Senate in 2010 and 2016.
"I wore the cloth of the nation for over 31 years in peace and war, from the Vietnam and Cold War eras, to Afghanistan and Iraq, and the emergence of China," said Sestak, who commanded the George Washington Aircraft Carrier Battle Group during operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. He slammed the 2003 decision to invade the latter country, CNN reports. "The hour has become late to restore US leadership to this liberal world order, but Iraq is our lesson to remember," he said. On President Trump, he said: "The president is not the problem. He is the symptom of the problem people see in a system that is not fair and accountable to the people."
