A gunman wearing a mask and glasses was killed outside a Dallas courthouse Monday after opening fire with an assault rifle, the Dallas Morning News reports. The FBI identified him as Brian Isaack Clyde, 22, but gave no motive for the attack at the Earle Cabell Federal Building. No officers or bystanders were hurt in the gunfire. "Law enforcement responded immediately and I want to assure the community, especially our downtown community, that the community is safe," said US Attorney Erin Nealy Cox, per the Daily Beast. A Morning News photographer on the scene snapped in-the-moment photos, including one of Clyde hunched over with his weapon.
Another Fox pic shows Clyde shirtless on the ground, surrounded by law enforcement, with a tattoo on his left arm of a red heart and something dark inside it. Fox says he saw the man park nearby, exit his vehicle in combat gear, and stop to pick up something before he began shooting. Clyde was engaged and killed by officers from the Federal Protective Service, CBS Dallas-Fort Worth reports. A brief eyewitness cellphone video can be seen here. It isn't the building's first shooter; another masked gunman murdered three people there in 2013, including a district attorney, to exact revenge after being prosecuted for property theft. That shooter is still on death row. (More shooting stories.)
