There's no shortage of dating websites that use personality profiles to come up with "scores" and assess compatibility; now, the AP reports, animal shelters are using a similar program to help pair famously fickle felines with owners. Some 45 facilities use Feline-ality, which assigns cats colorful personality types: leader of the band, personal assistant, private investigator, and the like.
Cats are measured on various criteria, such as reaction to new situations and level of social interactions, and then matched with families' needs and desires. The program has increased overall cat adoptions, in part because people find the process enjoyable. "It's an excellent idea to be thinking as much as we can about what's the right cat for the right home," one expert says, "and whether we can do some matchmaking." (More cat stories.)
