Police in Dallas have called in the FBI for assistance after the second murder of a transgender woman in the space of two weeks. The body of Chynal Lindsey, 26, was pulled from White Rock Lake on Saturday, less than a mile from where the body of 23-year-old Muhlaysia Booker was found May 18, the Dallas Morning News reports. Dallas police chief U. Renee Hall said Monday that Lindsey's body had "obvious signs of homicidal violence." "We are concerned, and we are actively and aggressively investigating the case," Hall said. Booker was shot to death weeks after she was beaten by a mob in what police said was an unconnected attack that followed a minor traffic accident.

"We know this is the second individual who is transgender who is deceased in our community and we are concerned," Hall said. The chief said the FBI will help determine whether either murder was a hate crime, CBS reports. After Booker's murder, Police Major Vincent Weddington said there were similarities between that killing, the murder of a transgender woman last October, and the attempted murder of a transgender woman who was stabbed and left for dead in April. Hall told reporters that there is no evidence to support fears that a serial killer is targeting transgender women in the city, but she asked the community to remain vigilant.
