Trump Suggests a Boycott of AT&T

President Trump isn't letting world travel hamper his tweeting habits. On Monday, after arriving in the UK for his three-day visit, Trump unleashed criticism on a familiar target—CNN. But this time, he suggested that people start boycotting parent company AT&T, reports Politico. In his first tweet, Trump complained that he had to turn off the TV because CNN was the main source of US news in the United Kingdom. "All negative & so much Fake News, very bad for U.S.," he wrote. But Trump then took his complaint further. "I believe that if people stoped using or subscribing to @ATT, they would be forced to make big changes at @CNN," Trump wrote, adding that CNN is providing "a false picture of USA. Sad!"

As the Wall Street Journal notes, Trump rarely lumps AT&T in with his CNN criticism, though AT&T execs seem to suspect that Trump's enmity for the cable network nearly scotched their mammoth takeover of Time Warner (CNN's previous parent company). "One has to question [whether there was] political motivation behind this," AT&T Chief Executive Randall Stephenson said in March. At the time, the Justice Department was challenging the acquisition, though the deal eventually went through. AT&T had no immediate public comment after the new criticism, notes CNBC.
