Rep. Justin Amash, so far the only sitting Republican to openly state that President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct, said so again Tuesday at a town hall in the Grand Rapids-area district he has served since 2011. "Clearly, things that violate the public trust are impeachable," the Michigan congressman told the packed audience, to applause. "I think it's really important that we do our job as Congress. That we would not allow misconduct to go undeterred. We have a job to do." He added that if impeachment is not invoked in this case, it might never be, which could harm the office of the president. "We should expect the president to uphold the law," he said. However, as CNN notes, Amash has not signed on to any Democratic impeachment resolutions.
The Detroit Free Press reports that hundreds of Democrats, Republicans, and independents attended the town hall, and many commended Amash, who is facing a primary challenge, for continuing to speak out against Trump. The actions Amash is referring to were detailed in special counsel Robert Mueller's report, and hours before the town hall, Amash issued a string of 25 tweets detailing his reaction to the report, per Politico. He took particular issue with the attorney general, accusing William Barr of having "deliberately misrepresented key aspects of Mueller’s report and decisions in the investigation, which has helped further the president’s false narrative about the investigation." (Amash could be a huge problem for Trump.)
