Clearly white-wine drinkers prefer punk music and red-wine lean toward jazz—didn't you know? As part of National Wine Day, a poll is out revealing the self-proclaimed personality traits and wine preferences of 2,000 Americans over the age of 21, per the New York Post. Conducted by One Poll, the survey was commissioned by Coravin, a company that makes wine-industry products. Among the findings:

  • White-wine drinkers tend to be extroverted night owls who prefer cats to dogs. They identify as perfectionists who are sarcastic and curious. They're less likely to call themselves wine aficionados and spend an average of $37 per bottle.
  • Red-wine drinkers are more often introverted early birds who prefer dogs and identify as organized, humble, and adventurous. They tend to consider themselves wine aficionados and dish out an average of $40 per bottle.
  • Red and white: Some 75% of respondents say they'll drink what others are having at an event even if they want something else. On average, respondents polish off three bottles of wine monthly to keep them from going bad, and toss out two partly full bottles monthly because they've soured.
(One diner ordered a $333 bottle of wine. But that's not what came.)
