Consumers who don't want E.coli contaminating their Memorial Day barbecue should make sure their beef hasn't been recalled, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service says. A recall notice has been issued for some 62,000 pounds of beef products that were packed at the Aurora Packing Company in Illinois on April 19 and shipped around the country, the Tennessean reports. A full list of products, including steaks and ribs, can be seen here.
The affected products have "EST. 788" in their USDA mark of inspection. CNN reports that potential E.coli contamination was detected in a random sampling and there have been no reports of illness—which can hit two to eight days after consuming contaminated meat—linked to the products. The USDA says consumers and institutions should remember to also check beef in their freezers. (More beef recall stories.)
