Attorney General Bill Barr ran into Nancy Pelosi at a DC function Wednesday, and their overhead remarks are, in the words of the Law & Crime blog, "really something." Hard to argue with that: Barr approached Pelosi at the National Peace Officers' Memorial Day Service and asked, "Madam Speaker, did you bring your handcuffs?" reports Nicholas Fandos of the New York Times. Pelosi kept the joke going, responding that the House sergeant-at-arms was nearby if any arrests needed to be made, per the AP. She was smiling and Barr was chuckling as he walked away.
The exchange, of course, comes amid the backdrop of a House panel's vote to hold Barr in contempt for issues related to the Mueller report. Pelosi herself has called the situation a "constitutional crisis." As the Hill notes, this isn't the first time Pelosi has joked about potential jail time. At another recent event, she noted there is "a little jail down in the basement of the Capitol, but if we were arresting all of the people in the administration, we would have an overcrowded jail situation." (Barr, meanwhile, is beginning to investigate the investigators.)
