She gave birth as prime minister. Now, Jacinda Ardern may wed as prime minister, too. The New Zealand leader got engaged to her partner of more than five years over Easter weekend, a spokesman confirmed Friday. As the New York Times quips, "New Zealand almost didn't notice." It reports a student journalist on an internship asked about a diamond ring seen on the middle finger of Ardern's left hand at a Friday event. The ring had apparently gone unnoticed since Monday.

Ardern met former television presenter and now-stay-at-home dad Clarke Gayford at a 2012 restaurant awards ceremony, per the BBC, and previously said she is "very, very lucky," to have such a supportive partner. But asked in January if she would propose marriage herself, Ardern was firm. "No. I want to put him through the pain and torture of having to agonize about that question himself," she said.
