The FBI says a "massive manhunt" is underway for a Florida woman obsessed with the 1999 Columbine school massacre who flew to Colorado from Miami on Monday night. Dean Phillips, special agent in charge of the FBI in Denver, says 18-year-old Sol Pais bought a pump-action shotgun and ammunition after leaving Denver International Airport, the Denver Post reports. Phillips says Pais made threats that caused Columbine and more than 20 other high schools in the area to lock their doors Tuesday. He said the threats were "concerning," but not specific to any school. Saturday will be the 20th anniversary of the Columbine shooting, in which two students killed 12 students and a teacher at the Littleton high school.
Phillips says Pais, who is considered armed and dangerous, was taken to an area near the Denver foothills after buying the shotgun, the New York Times reports. "Her comments, her actions that we have heard about from others tend to cause us great concern that she may pose a threat to a school," he told reporters Tuesday night. The FBI's Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force issued a statement Tuesday describing the teen as "infatuated" with the shooting and advising police to detain her and evaluate her mental health, reports the AP. Stan Hilkey, head of Colorado's public safety department, said Tuesday night that authorities still haven't decided whether to open high schools in the Denver area Wednesday.
