Nancy Pelosi thinks one of her Democratic congresswomen is in danger because of a tweet by President Trump. The House speaker says she has ordered Capitol Police to conduct a security assessment in regard to Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, reports USA Today. Pelosi also called on Trump to remove "his disrespectful and dangerous video," per the Wall Street Journal, but the tweet remains. On Sunday, White House press chief Sarah Sanders said Trump “is wishing no ill will and certainly not violence toward anyone.” But, she added, “the president is absolutely and should be calling out the congresswoman for her not only one time but history of anti-Semitic comments." The new controversy revolves around a speech Omar made in which she referenced the 9/11 attacks and used the phrase, "some people did something."

Critics including Trump have pounced on the speech, accusing Omar of belittling the 2001 attacks. Democrats say her comments have been taken out of context. (You can read Omar's remarks in full via Politifact.) “Since the president’s tweet Friday evening, I have experienced an increase in direct threats on my life—many directly referencing or replying to the president’s video," said Omar on Sunday evening, reports Politico. "I thank the Capitol Police, the FBI, the House Sergeant-at-Arms, and the speaker of the House for their attention to these threats." (Earlier this month, federal prosecutors accused a man in New York of threatening to kill Omar, whom he described as a "terrorist." (More Ilhan Omar stories.)
