The attorney general appeared before a House panel Tuesday ostensibly to talk about a mundane issue—the Justice Department's budget. Democrats, however, had a much different topic in mind—the Mueller report. So far, William Barr hasn't divulged much new information, however. He said he's still on track to release a redacted version "within a week," and he will explain the need for any specific redactions at that time, reports the New York Times. (They'll be color-coded, notes Roll Call.) In one early exchange of note, Barr declined to answer a line of questioning about whether the White House had seen the report before he issued his summary.
"Did the White House see the report before you released your summarizing letter?" asked Rep. Nita Lowey of the Appropriations Subcommittee. She also wanted to know if anyone from the White House had seen the report since the release of his letter or been briefed about its broader contents.
