This Sports Injury Ranks Among the Weirdest

The Red Sox can thank a two-year-old boy for putting their second baseman out of commission. Brock Holt says his son Griffin mistakenly poked him in the right eye and scratched his cornea before the Sox played the Seattle Mariners on March 28—opening day, the Boston Herald reports. Holt played anyway, went 1-for-16 to start the season, and realized his irritated eye was hurting his game. So he went on the 10-day injured list before playing Saturday. "It's not funny, but it is funny," he tells the Boston Globe. This no doubt ranks among baseball's weirder injuries, which include stepping in a gopher hole, getting burnt by a tanning bed, and dislocating a thumb while putting on socks, per an old Mental Floss rundown.
