President Trump is apparently still feuding with John McCain—seven months after the senator's death. After a report that a McCain associate had leaked the infamous Russia dossier, Trump quoted Ken Starr as saying it was a "very dark stain" on McCain's record and tweeted that the senator had "far worse stains," including his vote against repealing ObamaCare. In another tweet Sunday, Trump claimed it had been proven that it was "'last in his class' (Annapolis) John McCain that sent the Fake Dossier to the FBI and Media hoping to have it printed BEFORE the election," CNN reports. According to the Washington Post, McCain graduated fifth from last in his class, was not aware of the dossier until weeks after the election, and did not share it with the media.
Observers were taken aback by the ferocity of Trump's attack on the deceased fellow Republican. "There's no low with him," McCain political adviser John Weaver tells the New York Times. "There’s no bottom." Meghan McCain tweeted: "No one will ever love you the way they loved my father," and advised Trump to spend his Saturdays with his family instead of "obsessing over mine" on Twitter. Trump responded with a tweet from conservative commentator Lori Hendry, who said millions of Americans "truly LOVE President Trump, not McCain." GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Trump ally, didn't condemn the president's behavior, but praised his longtime friend McCain as a hero and one of history's "most consequential" senators. "Nothing about his service will ever be changed or diminished," he tweeted. (More John McCain stories.)
