President Trump's first veto is on the horizon. The Senate will vote Wednesday on a resolution demanding that the US end its military support of the devastating Saudi-led war in Yemen. The bipartisan resolution invoking the War Powers Act, seen as a rebuke of Trump, passed 56-41 in December following the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, but the Republican-controlled House did not take it up. It did pass the Democrat-controlled House last month, but will be voted on again. Citing "senators' rising anger" over a lack of accountability in the killing, the New York Times reports the resolution is expected to pass, though perhaps with fewer Republican votes than in December, when the White House warned of a presidential veto.

It said the resolution "would harm bilateral relationships in the region and negatively impact the ability of the United States to prevent the spread of violent extremist organizations," per Politico. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a co-sponsor along with Republican Sen. Mike Lee, instead called it "enormously important and historic" in a Tuesday statement. "The humanitarian catastrophe has only gotten worse in Yemen, and our intervention there is every bit as unconstitutional as it was then," he said. If the resolution gets Trump's first veto, the second shouldn't be far off. Trump has said he will veto a resolution overturning the national emergency declaration to secure funding for his border wall, which the Senate votes on Thursday. More on that here.
