The Senate on Thursday confirmed him 54-45 in a vote that fell largely along party lines, reports the AP. Three senators, however, bucked their party, with Republican Rand Paul voting against Barr and Democrats Joe Manchin, Doug Jones, and Kyrsten Sinema voting in favor, notes the Hill. During his confirmation hearing, Barr promised that he would not interfere with the Robert Mueller investigation, though Democrats weren't happy that he did not commit to making it public. The volatility of the post was made clear earlier Thursday when former acting FBI chief Andrew McCabe spoke of how the Justice Department, which Barr will lead, once considered trying to remove President Trump under the 25th Amendment.
