In a few weeks, the Queen of England may well be at an undisclosed location—if, that is, her nation fails to reach a Brexit deal and the streets erupt in violence, the Guardian reports. Two Sunday papers say Britain has re-activated Cold War plans to evacuate Her Majesty should things get ugly. "These emergency evacuation plans ... have now been repurposed in the event of civil disorder following a no-deal Brexit,” says the Sunday Times, which also quotes an official as saying the evacuation seems "extremely unlikely."
This as Britons are said to be hoarding medicines, groceries, and other items ahead of the March 29 Brexit-deal deadline, per the New York Times. In January, 92-year-old Queen Elizabeth II gave a speech that many took as a message to bickering lawmakers to find a middle ground on Brexit. As for her evacuation, details are understandably scarce—but Politico.eu notes that the royal family's original escape plan involved either escape by yacht or behind locked doors in "one or more country homes."
