Truck drivers at Walmart will soon be making an average of $87,500 a year, and the company is looking to hire even more truckers. It currently employs 8,000, and during a recent recruitment run it offered referral bonuses up to $1,500. It hired 1,400 new drivers last year and there are "hundreds more ... slated to join in 2019," the company says in a statement. Per CBS News, Walmart wants to hire 900 drivers this year "amid an ongoing shortage of truck drivers," and will be boosting pay and possibly offering quarterly bonuses as well. The median annual pay for truck drivers was more than $53,000 in March 2018, though MarketWatch points out many truckers make more money than that, noting that career site Indeed says truckers make an average of almost $74,000.
