A happy ending in the form of a forever home has come for a puppy in Iowa, after an animal shelter tried to put him down and failed. Kylie Jo Mitchell, a worker at the no-kill shelter where Rudolph—a pit bull mix estimated to be about 8 months old—eventually ended up calls him a "miracle dog" after he was scheduled to be euthanized due to overcrowding at his first shelter in Oklahoma. He was actually injected with the drugs that would put him permanently to sleep, per the San Francisco Chronicle, but then came the "miracle" part: The vet came back after Rudolph's injection, and the puppy was still awake. "I've never heard of anything like this ever," Mitchell says.
The Kings Harvest Pet Rescue No Kill Shelter in Iowa took Rudolph in after the failed euthanasia attempt, and it said last week in a Facebook post that "God had a different plan" for the pup. The shelter also noted that it was looking for a home for Rudolph, and per WIBW, there's been some good news on that front, after the shelter phone was "ringing off the hook" with interested parties. "Rudolph is heading to his forever home," the shelter posted on Saturday, along with a picture of Rudolph and his new owner. "It was a tough decision with so many wonderful applications but Rudolph fell in love with this young man and the feeling was mutual." (A dog saved from a fire was revived with some mouth-to-snout resuscitation.)
