Tuesday will be the 35th straight day without a news briefing at the White House, which is the longest stretch since they began under President Clinton, reports ABC News. The reason became a little clearer after a tweet from President Trump. "The reason Sarah Sanders does not go to the 'podium' much anymore is that the press covers her so rudely & inaccurately, in particular certain members of the press," Trump writes. "I told her not to bother, the word gets out anyway! Most will never cover us fairly & hence, the term, Fake News!"
As the Hill notes, Trump seemed to be reacting to an appearance on Fox News by White House spokesman Hogan Gidley, who discussed the recent lack of briefings. “It’s not that they’ve ever stopped, it’s just that sometimes we need to come to the podium to communicate things and sometimes we don’t,” Gidley said. He added that Trump often makes it unnecessary for such briefings by addressing the American public himself. Sanders held only two briefings in October, one in November, and one in December before current streak began. (Trump appeared in the briefing room this month, but did not take questions.)
