This year's Oscar nominations are out, which means lots of chatter about who got snubbed. The big one making just about everybody's list: Bradley Cooper didn't get a nod for best director for A Star Is Born. It's "perhaps the biggest snub of the morning," observes People. Cooper's consolation? The film was nominated for best picture, while he was nominated for best actor and co-star Lady Gaga for best actress. Also in the director's category, Bustle thinks it's a shame that Ryan Coogler didn't get a nod for Black Panther. Other perceived snubs:
- Timothee Chalamet: He was a best-actor nominee last year, but Academy voters skipped him this year, despite praise for his work in Beautiful Boy.
- Documentary: The Mr. Rogers documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor was overlooked, "despite charming audiences everywhere," per Refinery29. "This one hurts."
- Emily Blunt: The actress was shut out. "Somewhere between A Quiet Place and Mary Poppins Returns you'd think the clearly campaigning actress would have hit the right note with AMPAS voters," per Deadline.
- Crazy Rich Asians: The summer hit with an all-Asian cast failed to crack the best-picture category, notes USA Today. What's more, Constance Wu and Michelle Yeoh were overlooked for their individual performances.
