RNC Chair Not Happy With Her Uncle Mitt

Like the president, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee finds fault with an op-ed critical of Trump penned by Utah senator-elect Mitt Romney—who just so happens to be her uncle. "POTUS is attacked and obstructed by the [mainstream] media and Democrats 24/7. For an incoming Republican freshman senator to attack @realdonaldtrump as their first act feeds into what the Democrats and media want and is disappointing and unproductive," Ronna McDaniel said Wednesday in a tweeted reply to President Trump's own response, turning "the intra-party fight into a family feud," at least according to Fox News. Romney has not publicly responded to McDaniel.

CNN's Andrew Kaczynski reports McDaniel went by Ronna Romney McDaniel on social media up until shortly before becoming RNC chair in January 2017. In December 2017, the Washington Post reported that it was Trump himself who asked her to stop using her maiden name publicly and was "pleased" when she did so. She's been a staunch defender of the president since, putting her at odds with her uncle. "With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable. And it is in this province where the incumbent’s shortfall has been most glaring," Romney wrote in Tuesday's column. (See how Trump responded to Romney's op-ed here.)
