It was Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen instead of one of his reality show guests who dished up a surprise for his audience: The 50-year-old announced on his last show of the year Thursday that he's going to be a dad for the first time, reports the Daily Beast. "Tonight I want to share a little personal news of my own," an emotional Cohen said during the broadcast. "I've always tried to be as transparent as possible about my life," said Cohen, who is gay. "And tonight, I want you to be the first to know that ... if all goes according to plan ... I am going to become a father."

Cohen said it happened "after many years of careful deliberation, a fair amount of prayers, and the benefit of science," the AP reports. He noted that a "wonderful surrogate" is carrying his child, who's due in about six weeks. "Family means everything to me, and having one of my own is something that I have wanted in my heart for my entire life," he said. "And though it's taken me longer than most to get there, I cannot wait for what I will envision will be the most rewarding chapter yet." Cohen is the executive producer of reality series such as The Real Housewives and will co-host CNN's New Year's Eve coverage with Anderson Cooper.
