Instagram users are decidedly not taken with Sarah Michelle Gellar's Thanksgiving preparations. The former star of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer issued an apology after sharing photos of herself from a 2007 Maxim lingerie shoot. "I'm just going to pin these up all over my house as a reminder not to overeat on Thursday #thanksgivingprep," the 41-year-old captioned Saturday's post, per People. The Takeout notes she "could not have predicted the kerfuffle that was about to explode." "I suggest you do some research on eating disorders, the mental health issues that go along with them, and how diet culture is harmful to women," one of thousands of comments reads in part.
"Skinny doesn't make you beautiful or healthy. Overeating one day isn't going to hurt you," reads another, per E!. Gellar later acknowledged allegations of "fat shaming," noting "that could not be further from my intentions." On Thanksgiving, "I tend to eat so much I make myself sick. This was a joking reminder to myself not to do that," she said, adding, "I'm terribly sorry that people were offended by my attempt at humor." Some fans didn't see what all the fuss was about, however. "You are gorgeous and you have the right to post whatever you want," one said, per People. Former Saved By The Bell star Tiffani Thiessen appeared to back Gellar, too. "Is it weird if I pin these pics of you in my house too?" she wrote, per E! (Gellar turned down this iconic role.)
