Pamela Anderson is criticizing Australia's prime minister for making "smutty, unnecessary comments about a woman voicing her political opinion." Appearing on Australia's 60 Minutes this month, the Baywatch star urged Prime Minister Scott Morrison to bring WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange back to his to native Australia; Morrison turned down the request, reports the AP. But the prime minister added he had "plenty of mates who have asked me if they can be my special envoy to sort out the issue with Pamela." A government official called the remark "lighthearted."

Anderson posted a letter in the Daily Beast on Saturday in which she called Morrison's remarks "disappointing." She writes, "You trivialized and laughed about the suffering of an Australian and his family. ... Rather than making lewd suggestions about me, perhaps you should instead think about what you are going to say to millions of Australians when one of their own is marched in an orange jumpsuit to Guantanamo Bay—for publishing the truth. You can prevent this." Morrison has not replied to the letter. CNN notes that Anderson has reportedly been meeting with Assange in the Ecuadorean embassy for the past two years, and characterized their relationship as a "romantic struggle" in the 60 Minutes interview. (An "error" revealed secret Assange charges.)
