Greyhound Passenger Saves Bus: 'I Didn't Want to Die'

"I look up and it was like a video game." That's how Everette Elliott describes to KSTU what he woke up to on Friday morning on the Greyhound bus he was riding. When Elliott went to the front of the swerving bus, which was just outside Orem, Utah, to see what was going on, the driver appeared to be losing consciousness. That's when Elliott jumped into action and somehow got the bus to the side of the freeway (KSL says he jumped into the driver's seat and pulled the bus over; KSTU reports he screamed at the driver to rouse him, and the driver slammed on the brakes).

Either way, just one passenger out of the nearly two dozen suffered any injuries, and it was minor, a Greyhound rep says. The bus company adds that the driver had suffered a "medical emergency," and a Utah Highway Patrol spokesman says he's recuperating. "We're lucky to have a passenger that was able to step up and take care of the driver," the officer tells KSL. Elliott says he simply did what anyone would've done. "I didn't want to die and I know [the other passengers] didn't want to die," he tells KSTU. (This Greyhound driver drove in circles for hours.)
