Trump: 'See How Nice I'm Behaving Tonight?'

After day in which explosive devices were intercepted en route to some of his main rhetorical targets—including CNN—President Trump condemned political violence but also singled out the media. Speaking at a rally in Wisconsin, Trump didn't accept any responsibility for the current political atmosphere, but said those "in the political arena" should "stop treating political opponents as being morally defective," the AP reports. "The media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and to stop the endless hostility and constant negative and oftentimes false attacks and stories," said Trump, who was speaking at a rally for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Senate candidate Leah Vukmir.

"Any acts or threats of political violence are an attack on our democracy itself," Trump said, per ABC. The president was relatively subdued during his remarks, the Washington Post reports. He refrained from his usual attacks on Democratic targets including Hillary Clinton and Maxine Waters—two of the people the pipe bombs were addressed to—and did not encourage audience members when some of them started shouting "CNN sucks." "By the way, do you see how nice I'm behaving?” Trump said. "We're all behaving very well. And hopefully we can keep it that way." (The Secret Service says devices sent to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were identified during routine mail screening.)
