The new comedy Night School overcame weak reviews and fended off an animated Yeti to grab top spot at the weekend box office, per the Hollywood Reporter. Drawing a multi-ethnic audience—37% Caucasian, 30% African American, 24% Latino, 5% Asian, and 4% other, says Universal—the Kevin Hart comedy domestically banked $28 million, ahead of Smallfoot ($23 million), The House With the Clock in Its Walls ($12.5 million), A Simple Favor ($6.5 million), and The Nun ($5.4 million), reports Variety. The raucous Night School is also the best bow "for a broad comedy" since Girls Trip in 2017, says the Reporter. (More movies stories.)
