The man who gave the world an inside peek into the world of the wealthy has died. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Robin Leach, host of the syndicated TV series Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, has died at age 76. "Sad to report the death of famed celeb reporter, friend and colleague #RobinLeach," friend John Katsilometes tweeted Friday morning, adding that Leach had suffered a stroke on Monday and died early Friday in Las Vegas. Page Six notes Leach had been in the hospital since November after suffering an earlier stroke in Cabo San Lucas. "Despite the past 10 months, what a beautiful life he had," Leach's three sons noted in remarks posted by Katsilometes. "Everyone's support and love over the past, almost one year, has been incredible and we are so grateful."
A London native, Leach, at age 18, became the youngest editor ever to work at his hometown's Daily Mail, and he went on to pen articles and provide editorial services for a variety of other publications, including the Star, the New York Daily News, and People. He also helped launch the TV show Entertainment Tonight. But it was his "career of ogling lavish living," as USA Today puts it, for his hit TV series that made him a household name, bringing average Americans into rich people's not-so-humble abodes for more than a decade in the '80s and '90s.
