The charges against adult film star Stormy Daniels have been dropped following her arrest at an Ohio strip club Wednesday night. Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, was booked following an appearance at the Sirens club in Columbus during which she was accused of touching three undercover police officers in violation of a law that prohibits nude performers from coming into contact with patrons. According to CNN, the so-called Community Defense Act, passed in 2007, specifically addresses employees who regularly appear nude in a sexually oriented business. Because Daniels does not regularly appear at Sirens, the Columbus City Attorney determined that the crime was not technically committed. Daniels was out on bond after posting $6,000. She had been scheduled to be arraigned Friday.

Per the AP, Daniels' attorney, Michael Avenatti, said that some patrons touched Daniels in a "non-sexual way" during her appearance at the club. Avenatti has characterized the arrest as "an absurd use of law enforcement resources," in part because he says female undercover officers asked Daniels if they could place their faces in her breasts. The AP also reports that Avenatti has said his client is "traumatized and rattled" following her brush with the law. He said she has left the state of Ohio and will not appear for her scheduled performance Thursday. Daniels became a household name after claiming she had an affair with Donald Trump in 2006 while Melania Trump was pregnant with their son, Barron. (More Stormy Daniels stories.)
