US / Red Hen restaurant Outside Red Hen: Protesters, Diners, Chicken Manure Lexington restaurant didn't open as expected Tuesday By Kate Seamons, Newser Staff Posted Jun 27, 2018 8:56 AM CDT Copied Passersby gather to take photos in front of the Red Hen Restaurant, Saturday, June 23, 2018, in Lexington, Va. (AP Photo/Daniel Lin) Though WSLS reports it was supposed to open for dinner, the Red Hen in Lexington, Va., remained closed Tuesday in the wake of owner Stephanie Wilkinson's decision not to serve White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday. That doesn't mean all is calm. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports police arrested a man on Tuesday who went past the eatery, yelled "Make America great again!" and hurled chicken manure from a bucket onto the sidewalk outside it. He was charged with disorderly conduct. The Washington Post reports protesters began showing up at 3pm Tuesday, two hours before the restaurant's scheduled opening time, with one woman's sign reading "Don't eat at the commie cluck." Others began showing up in hopes of snagging a dinner table; the restaurant remained dark, with some saying Wilkinson may not open again until next week. Wilkinson hasn't commented on when her doors will open, but she did resign as director of Main Street Lexington in order to ensure its "continued success." (More Red Hen restaurant stories.)
