A 35-year-old mother channeled her inner superhero on Wednesday when she dove into a pool to save a drowning mother and her 3-year-old son at an Indianapolis apartment complex, reports WTHR. Jennifer Potter, an assistant manager at Brookwood Apartments, and a co-worker were cruising by the community pool in a golf cart when they saw the toddler in trouble in the deep end of the pool, hanging onto a raft. Potter jumped off the cart and raced to the pool. “I'm literally throwing my coat off, dropping my phone and keys," says Potter, per WishTV. "It felt like forever to get to the side of the pool."
As she was saving the toddler, she saw the boy’s mother, who was six months' pregnant, unconscious under the boy. When Potter saw the mother, she says she had to fight off panic, not sure if she could save them both. She grabbed the pair and swam to safety, then she and the co-worker called 911. Firefighters credit her with saving both lives, along with that of the unborn child. Potter, who has a 3-year-old of her own, said she was just acting on instinct. “Everybody keeps telling me I'm a hero,” she says. “I hope any other person would do the same thing."
