"He loved helping his friends. He was always there for people if they needed him," Jennifer Phelps says of her son, Michael Buskey. It was help 19-year-old Buskey allegedly received, however, that has led to unusual charges in his death earlier this month, per the AP. According to police, the New Hampshire teen committed suicide in the woods near his Plymouth apartment with assistance from his roommate, 19-year-old Parker Hogan, who could face up to seven years in prison on charges of causing or aiding a suicide involving death and falsifying physical evidence, reports WMUR.
Hogan allegedly went with Buskey to the site of his death, helped him practice ways of shooting himself, then left and returned only after hearing a gunshot to make sure Buskey was dead. Police say Hogan waited until the next day to call police and Buskey's father. There are also "allegations that he got rid of a suicide note" and "wiped fingerprints off of the gun and alcohol nips that were involved in the planning," which add to the theory that "he knew full well what was going to happen when Buskey was left alone in the woods," a legal analyst tells WMUR. Hogan has pleaded not guilty, while Phelps says things aren't adding up and she believes there's "a lot more behind" her son's death "than meets the eye." (More suicide stories.)
