Meryl Streep has signed on to star in a thriller by Steven Soderbergh about the Panama papers scandal. Per the Hollywood Reporter, the film will be called The Laundromat and both Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas are in early talks to co-star. The film does not yet have a distribution deal, but Netflix is reportedly interested. The script will be based on a book about the scandal called Secrecy World: Inside the Panama Papers Investigation of Illicit Money Networks and the Global Elite. The book reveals the global corruption exposed in the papers, which showed how a Panamanian law firm helped the world's wealthiest funnel money through shell companies. Among other films on tap for Streep, who recently got her 21st Oscar nod for The Post, are two sequels. The first revisits Streep's turn in Mamma Mia! The second casts Emily Blunt as the beloved nanny in Mary Poppins Returns. (More Meryl Streep stories.)
