President Trump has another major personnel change to deal with: John Dowd, his personal attorney who had been leading the president's response to the Robert Mueller investigation, has resigned, report the New York Times and the Washington Post. The latter paper suggests his departure was "largely a mutual decision" between the two men. "I love the president and wish him well," wrote Dowd in an email distributed to news outlets. Still, aTimes story earlier this week reported that Dowd was considering stepping down out of frustration over the president's reluctance to take his advice.
For example, Dowd has counseled Trump against sitting for an interview with Mueller, but the president insists he should. Politico also reports that Dowd had become "increasingly frustrated" in his job, and matters weren't helped when Trump added Joseph diGenova, a former US attorney, to his legal team. However, Politico notes that diGenova, like Dowd, favors a generally confrontational view toward Mueller, so it wasn't clear how much of a strategy shift will result. (More John Dowd stories.)
