Some states are worse than others when it comes to hate groups. Using data from the Southern Poverty Law Center, 24/7 Wall St. has compiled a list of the 10 states with the most such groups. Idaho ends up first in the unwanted category, at least on a per-capita basis. The 10:
- Idaho: 7.1 hate groups per million people; total number of hate groups, 12
- Tennessee: 5.6 per million people; number of hate groups, 37
- Mississippi: 5 per million people; number of hate groups, 15
- Alabama: 4.7 per million people; number of hate groups, 23
- Indiana: 4.5 per million people; number of hate groups, 30
- Virginia: 4.4 hate groups per million people; total number of hate groups, 37
- Oregon: 4.4 per million people; number of hate groups, 18
- Arkansas: 4 per million people; number of hate groups, 12
- Georgia: 3.9 per million people; number of hate groups, 40
- Colorado: 3.8 per million people; number of hate groups, 21
